I Seek The Seekers

Sometimes we have strong feelings about situations cross our paths. Sometimes we choose to do nothing and others we find the biggest flashlight that we can and bring those situations to light. Recently I have enountered 2 such situations, by design. Being a former private investigator I am people curious. I refused to take domestic cases like the guys on the television show "Cheaters" and focused my sights on internet and insurance investigations,

When I retired in 2005 I became interested in working from home and starting an internet business. Like every other person getting involved with internet opportunities you are exposed to all kinds of people. Some are honest but unknowing, others are honest yet unwilling to talk and some are downright dishonest.

Have you ever seen the movie Glengary Glen Ross? It was a Broadway play in 1984 and later adapted to the silver screen in 1992 and portrayed 2 days in the lives of 4 Real Estate salesman who were so desperate ! and unethical that they would use any means necessary to sell less than desireable pieces of land to unwilling prospects.

The reason that I bring up those 2 shows is because of a couple of telephone calls that I received. One was from a capture page that I filled out and subsequent sales call that I attended and the other was the result of a purchase of a well known product that purchased online. Remember it is call "Lead generation techniques"

The first call was from a guy who referred to himself only by a single name. Previously, I was invited to one of his sales calls and it was something right out of an Andrew Vachss novel. It was steeped in secrecy. The was the infamous "pre sales call" meeting, specific instructions - no Voip phones, no cell phones, arrive in one conference call to receive instructions the hang up and call a different number with a new passcode. It was shades of Sam Spade, dark alley meetings with only voices, no glowing tip of an inhaled ! cigarette to illuminate faces.. Then the call was muted and yo! u were i ntroduced to your host, one by one pressurized, interrogated, badgered to buy his product and become one of his "Captains" in the organization.

As the number of leads dwindled the pressure to buy increased. I stayed waiting to hear the entire speech in anticipation of his final close as the lead said that he couldn't buy because of lack of funds. "Go get a credit card", the host demanded and "you will have your money back by Saturday." I never knew what happened to that kid, whether or not he crumbled under the pressure because after hearing what I came to hear I disconnected the call.

How many times have you been invited to or experienced such a call?

I do it frequently. I will attend those calls not because I have any real interest in the products like he was selling but because being curious about people I am interested in finding out how and why seemingly good people fall prey to these scam artists. In this guy's case he prey's on a weak person's need f! or greed, a fast dollar with zero effort on their part .

The second call that I received from the product purchase was more upscale and polished. The call came from a young woman who begins asking a question about your recent purchase and if you would like more success in your "niche" market. Of couse I said yes, who wouldn't. Doesn;t everyone want a sure fire method to become more handsome, loose weight or be able to live the lifestyle of the Rich and Famous?

Anyway after she "assesses" your desire and the best way that they could design a program "just for you" she will see if she can "get you in touch with her senior adviser" who just happens to be available. Imagine that, and this is where it gets interesting. In your assessment process they try to determine how much money you would be willing to invest in their program. That is when I give them a ridculous small amount and tell them cash only - no credit cards. Of course that information gets passed on to t! he closer who like in Glengarry Glenn Ross is going to do anyt! hing he has to including tell you to "go get a credit card" and maximize your debt if that is what it takes to get you to sign on the line that is dotted.

So what do I do on as an internet marketer you may ask? Well I don' pitch deals, I just buy customers. I sleep better at night.
